The new Ducati 1199 Panigale at Causeway KTM Ducati

The highly anticipated new Ducati 1199 Panigale will be on show for all Perth riders this coming May. It will be the first chance for Perth motorbike riders to get up close and personal with what has been called the new king of superbikes.

Heres what some of the test riders at MCN had to say about the 2012 1199 Panigale: “We’re midway through our day riding the new Panigale and it continues to impress. The 195bhp Superquadro engine is hugely impressive with just the right amount of usable torque to fly out of the corners and monster power for devouring the straights.

“Everything from the suspension, engine braking, traction control, ABS and god knows what else is adjustable, enhancing the Ducati any way you want it.

“I can’t notice the difference between the frameless chassis and a normal one, but then I’m not a MotoGP rider. All I know is it steers like a Japanese 1000 and handles superbly.

“The riding position is brilliant, it’s not long like the old bike, but really controllable and natural instead.

“The gearbox, slipper clutch and electronic engine braking works well and the brakes are mind-blowing.

“Usually Ducatis feel slow even when they’re going fast because they’re twins – this feels fast!”

Come see us at Causeway KTM Ducati and see this epic model that is as powerful as it is sexy; kinda like the woman of your dreams. Sure to get your engines pumped! Pre orders will be taken on the day. Dave and Ram will be more than happy to answer all your questions and help you be the first in Perth to have one of these incredible motorcycles.

New Motorbike Riders Guide – Intro

Welcome to the motorcycling community

Welcome all new riders to our motorcycling community! Our New Motorbike Riders Guide is for new riders about the basics of getting your license, road etiquette, buying protective gear, awesome tips, tricks and much more.

Most of us who ride, can remember the exact moment we said, “Gotta get me one of these motorbikes!” and started the process of getting firstly a 250 license & then secondly, asking, “What type of bike do I want?” We do lots of research on the bike we want to buy and don’t put to much thought in to safety gear. What ever is the cheapest or the nicest colour that matches my new bike is about the most we think about it. With experience on the road we begin to understand the importance of having the right gear that will protect us if we do have an accident.

Be aware and wear the right gear to stay safe

The problem with that is we are at our most vulnerable in the first 12-18 months of riding. Especially if you dont ride daily. Road sense and confidence needs bike time to build, the 250 power is great but is no match for the bigger bikes ability to get you away from the traffic. The point of all this, spend some time thinking about what safety gear to buy. To help you with that, we as a group want to give our brand new riders some very basic info to help them make better decisions about what will be the right gear for them.

Choosing the right helmet is important

What is a good helmet? How should it fit? What do I look for in a helmet? How much should I spend? In the coming weeks we will be putting up information on different protective products to help you make more informed decisions when you purchase your new bike. We will start with the most important, which of course is your helmet. Stay tuned and ride safe.

Victory Motorcycles: a closer look

Victory Motorcycles is a brand that not many people are aware of. The brand, for the most part, is labeled as a “Harley” or a “Harley want a be,” which in my opinion is unfair but understandable. The only thing that these brands share is that they are both made in America, they are a cruiser and they’re a v-twin. Other than that they are as different as Yamaha and Kawasaki are to each other.

Polaris, who own Victory, launched the brand in 1997. In July 1998 the first Victory rolled off the production line, the V92C.

Since then they have made many different models throughout the years. One of the defining moments for the brand is when Arlen Ness joined the brand to launch the Victory Vegas in 2003. Since then, Cory Ness has produced his versions of the Victory brand and Zach Ness is set to release his in 2011.

Jackpot

Vegas 8 Ball

Hammer

Victory now do 2 engine types, the 100c (1634cc) and the 106c (1731cc) with 5 and 6 speed gear boxes. The current Victory models are modern styled and engineered. Overhead cam, hydraulic tappets, self-tensioning cam chain, fuel injection etc. All the technology put into these machines mean a smoother better ride and very low maintenance costs as well. If you love chrome or a bike that is blacked out, there is a model to suit. Victory have an extensive aftermarket catalogue which is full of accessories to individualize any Victory motorcycle.

Kingpin

Vision

Cross Roads

Ultimately it’s all about the ride. These machines do not disappoint. I am a fan. I rode the Victory Vision, Cross Country, Hammer and my favorite, the Jackpot.

Very smooth, lots of grunt and easy to ride. Even with the Jackpot and Hammer having a 250 rear tyre, I had no problems with the handling . Traffic was easy enough to get through and they are beautiful on the open road. The low down torque means you never have a problem overtaking or getting out of harm’s way.

Victory Motorcycles are here to stay. They are over 350 dealers selling them in the United States. There are dealers in New Zealand and Australia including this one here in Perth. They are very reliable, good looking cruiser that ride well. Come down to the Victory showroom and look for yourself.

There is an alternative and it’s the New American Motorcycle, Victory.

Brett reviews the Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx

Hows it going? Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year. So here we are, the Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx.

The Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx has been out for a little while now and have rode the bike a few times. I have put some pretty decent kms on it and have to say I enjoyed every minute of my time with the bike. This bike is a breeze to ride, either for a short run or touring on the open road. You feel confident on it right away.
Ninja 1000sx
Lets start with the looks. It is based on the Z1000 naked. Same exaust, engine and frame. It comes with a full fairing and larger fuel tank.
Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx full fairingThe screen has 3 different adjustments which is done manually on the dash. It has a set of grab rails for the pillion rider as well as a well padded pillion seat. Dash lay-out has an analog taco and digital speedo and looks good at night with a white lit back ground. Twin head lights give it an aggressive front end appearance and good lighting on the dark roads. All over this bike looks the goods. A daily commuter that will not look out of place on the race track either.

The ride of this machine will really impress. It is up right and comfortable. It inspires confidence no matter what you wish to do. Commuting through heavy traffic, touring 2 up, track days etc. You feel as though the bike is ready for anything. The power is very smooth and comes on hard as the revs climb. Not a sudden hit as such, just a solid hit that will put a smile on your face. Handling and braking are great. You dont feel like you are pushing that hard until you look at the speedo.

Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx ABSOf course the ABS gives you piece of mind if you have to pull the bike up quickly. Two up is very good. The seat is well padded and the grab rails on the side make it even more comfortable. You will be able to ride for long periods of time without getting sore. Panniers can be fitted to the bike for storage and they look quite good. The 19lt fuel tank gives excellent fuel range, good for about 260km comfortably.

The Ninja 1000sx is a very good motorcycle. Its fast and nimble. It zips through the daily traffic grind and then you can ride fast and hard with your mates on a track day, then turn around with the wife on the back and head out of town for the weekend.

This is a must checkout motorcycle.

News Updates: New Kawasaki bikes and Victory Perth

How is everyone? Christmas is almost upon us and the end of another year. Lots of things have been happening in our shops as you have probably already read about. To start with, Yamaha has moved down to the Kawasaki shop. We have extended that shop back and split the show room floor – Yamaha on one side and Kawasaki on the other. We have a larger range of new accessories as well as a massive range of motorcycles all under one roof. New Kawasaki jetskis are displayed and the KTM Ducati showroom is still accessable from the main showroom. It looks brilliant and well worth a visit.

Secondly we have just opened our Victory showroom in the old yamaha shop. Repainted, carpeted and some very exciting looking bikes all out ready to be admired. These motorcycles are awesome. Spectacularly designed and if its not quite customized enough for you, there is a massive range of factory backed aftermarket gear that you can put on to create your own unique style. Demos are available for test rides so before you buy a cruiser, come and check Victory out.

If that isn’t enough for you then I have got some new Kawasaki motorbikes coming very soon. Firstly, the highly anticipated 2011 ZX10. This bike will be the bench mark for the next year or 2. It is an absolute weapon, traction control and a switch on the bars to give you 3 different modes of riding. Styling, brakes, dash layout etc. The list goes on. Hopefully it will be out early January, possibly even late December.
Also we will see the new Ninja 1000SX. Based on the Z1000 naked this is a sports tourer with a very sporty edge. Very comfortable riding position for the rider as well as a good pillion seat. Full fairings and aggressive styling will ensure this bike turns heads. This is a bike I can not wait to test ride. Look out for that review as soon as I get the demo.

Lastly the W800. Based on the old W650 but with an 800cc engine. It keeps in with the old school look but modern specs like fuel injection. Its a beautiful looking bike and its great to see a bike like this coming back into the market. Hopefully the Kawasaki W800 will hit showrooms early February.

Phew!!! Hope thats enough to keep you going for the next few weeks. Come down and see us and keep your eye out for the new models that will be arriving soon. If we don’t see you, have a safe and happy xmas.

Ride safe.
